Funding Announcement
The Lakeland Alliance has been successful in a submission to Environment Canada's EcoAction Community Grant Program for $99,000 for 2011 and 2012.
Goals for this project include 16 stewardship projects that will improve the quality of freshwater outputs from agricultural properties while increasing biodiversity and habitat for fish and birds dependant on natural shorelines. These projects will be completed in collaboration with the Kawartha Farm Stewardship Collaborative.
In addition, seminars providing professional development credit to real estate agents will give them the tools necessary to ensure that prospective cottage owners are informed about their roles as lake stewards. Workshops for lake-based businesses (marinas, campgrounds, resorts) outlining the relationship between a healthy lake ecosystem and a successful operation and will provide information and resources to help them to adopt lake friendly business practices.
The Kawartha Farm Stewardship Collaborative was featured on CHEX TV's 'Newswatch at 5:30'. Click here to watch it!
